Sauli Eloranta – Rolls Royce
Sauli Eloranta is in charge of innovation and technology of Rolls-Royce´s Marine business. His responsibilities include Marine innovation and technology strategies, R&T, IP issues and external funding. Sauli is based in Turku, Finland.
Sauli acts as the Chairman for the Autonomous Maritime Ecosystem.
Born in Finland, Sauli has spent his entire 25-year career in the marine industry. Sauli holds a MSc degree in Engineering / Naval Architecture.
Rauli Hulkkonen – TEKES
Rauli Hulkkonen has been in Tekes – THE FINNISH FUNDING AGENCY FOR INNOVATION since 1997 and is currently working as Chief Adviser in SME-department mainly with industrial renewal projects. His previous work has been focusing on development of networking businesses and research. He has been program manager and Tekes-responsible for several programs, e.g. Merike, DIMECC Innovations and networks, and DIMECC REBUS. Prior to Tekes he has worked in ABB and Wärtsilä Marine. Rauli holds a MSc degree in Engineering/Naval architecture.
Roni Jukakoski – Cargotec
Ilari Kallio – Wärtsilä
Ilari Kallio joined Wärtsilä in 2006. Since 2014 he is holding the position of Vice President, Engines Technology. In his previous positions within Wärtsilä Mr. Kallio was leading various research and innovation activities, comprising research collaboration, development of global innovation management structures and innovation processes. Before these positions, Ilari Kallio has worked in different R&D roles in Wärtsilä both in Finland and in Switzerland. In 2016 Mr. Kallio received the CTO of the year award for Finnish large Corporations.
Eero Lehtovaara – ABB Oy
As a Master Mariner, Eero has a deep understanding of vessels and operators. He has a broad experience in the marine industry, and has managed operations both onboard vessels and on the shore side. With his international and multilingual operations background, he efficiently communicates the ABB Marine strengths to customers. Eero is responsible for the continuous communication to classification societies and main stakholders. Completed ABB’s Senior Leadership Development Program at IMD Business School in Lausanne.

Bengt Sahlin – Oy LM Ericsson Ab
Bengt Sahlin has an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Helsinki University of Technology (TKK)). At TKK, he has also lectured on Modern Data Communications as well as on DNS and DNS security. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
Bengt has worked in the fields of data- and telecommunications for 21 years, mostly with security aspects. In 2000 he joined Ericsson where he has worked on mobile systems security and product security. He was also technical coordinator for Ericsson’s security implementation projects.
Bengt has been involved in standardization activities since 1997. He has been participating 3GPP, ETSI, GSMA and IETF activities. He was 3GPP TSG SA WG3 (security) chairman 2010-2013.
Currently, Bengt is a Research Leader for the security group at Ericsson Research NomadicLab in Jorvas. Bengt has been active in external collaboration projects since 2007, including both national Finnish collaboration projects as well as projects on EU level.
Kari Sillanpää – Meyer Turku
Joined Meyer Turku shipyard, at that time Wärtsilä Marine, in 1989. Concentrating mostly in passenger ships, duties have ranged from concept designs to detailed technical studies and development projects with specialties in concept development, customer orientated approach, energy efficiency, and research cooperation. Been member of or lead development teams, responsible for developing most of the latest Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Viking Line and many other customer’s ships. Currently responsible for research, development and innovation work related to new ship concepts and technologies with special emphasis to customer experience, energy efficiency, digitalisation, and sustainability.
Matti Vakkuri – Tieto
Matti Vakkuri has 20 years of experience from areas of management, leadership, business development, analytics, security, quality, human resource management, project management, program management, offering development , crisis management and consulting in both governmental and private sector.
In his current position in Tieto his tasks are to enable the power of new technologies with enormous impact on the customers’ businesses assure cross-organizational collaboration and network, evaluate partners, suppliers and competitors in the ecosystem. Tasks include executing, advocating and lobbying AI, IoT and Big Data’s possibilities internally and externally in business operations, research and product development.
